About Me

I’m a young and dynamic man and my desire to change what I think is wrong, makes me associative by nature. I actually live in France in Prévessin-Möens and I’m Portuguese from Aveiro, working in Geneve in Switzerland. I have an insatiable curiosity, especially regarding scientific and technological matters. I love to establish long debates with friends/acquaintances who study other areas. I believe in people, I’m the kind of  “teaching to fish rather than giving the fish”, and sometimes people call me an idealist and a perfectionist. I have a great sense of humor and I’m self-confident in my principles, opinions and abilities.

Currently my work is being done at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) as a Materials Engineer, developing the materials used at ISOLDE for the production of radioactive ion beams. I also frequent a master’s degree in Materials Engineering at the University of Aveiro and I’m working on my master thesis which is part of a collaboration between CERN and the university, and is entitled: ”Influence of microstructural characteristics of calcium oxide targets on the diffusion isotopes” under the supervision of Prof. Ana Senos (University of Aveiro) and Dr. Thierry Stora (CERN). This traineeship was achieved by a national contest made by Adi (which finances the traineeship through FCT) to select a few candidates to CERN traineeships. If life permits it, I have the intention of starting a PhD during the traineeship, after finishing my masters degree.

Relatively to my extracurricular activities, I was the Coordinator of Núcleo de Estudantes de Materiais da AAUAv (Materials Students Association of the Students’ Union of University of Aveiro), for 2 years (2009 and 2010), organizing activities like conferences and seminars.  I was also involved in social volunteering: I was the President of Caritas of Gafanha da Nazaré from December, 2008 to January, 2011. Previously I was Treasurer – three years – and then President – for a year and a half – of the Grupo de Acção Social Contigo (social volunteering group). Highlighting, I was a Scout from 1995 to 2009, and it was there that I learned most of the principles and values which drive my life – service, teamwork, citizenship, appreciation of the simple, sacrifice spirit and the “New Man” ideal.
